24.11.16 Refining Performative Presence – Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany. Masterclass Workshop.
11 & 12.10.14 Choreographing with the Lens – Studio 303, Montréal, Canada. (Presented by Cinédanse Montréal). 2 day intensive. (Lang: French).
The relationship between the moving body, time, space and the lens is a rich and complex one. Through this two day intensive, choreographer/ filmmaker Isabel Rocamora will lead professionals of both the dance and filmmaking fields through a series of practical investigations in the dialogue between the moving body and the lens.
Excercises will include: techniques in observation; the sequence shot versus the edit (working with time and space); capturing the three-dimensionality of moving action; the dialogue between the moving body and the moving camera; basic rules of shooting for editing (the language of film); remaining faithful to movement qualities when we shoot (working with rhythm and change); the integration of theme, choreography and the filmic eye (collaborative methods). It is expected that both dance practitioners and filmmakers will contribute specific creative perceptions that will be mutually enriching. The specialised nature of this workshop is grounded in an understanding of interchangeability: so dance practitioners will engage with the process of choreographing for film as well as filmmaking, and filmmakers will have the opportunity to do some movement work in order to deepen their understanding of choreographing and filmically capturing the moving subject. The principle of collaboration is therefore at the heart of this learning process.
