PROMISE OF FALLEN TIME

JURY SPECIAL MENTION, IL COREOGRAFO ELETTRONICO, NAPLES PAN MUSEUM (May 2010)

"Rocamora maintains her fine taste for texture, revealing life in each and every one of her still-lives. Here too we are to feel the accent offered by human presence in an empty space, as well as a freedom for interpretation which allows the story to capriciously intertwine in its viewer's memory"

Ferrán Mateo, La Vanguardia, 25 Feb 2009

A POST-APOCALYPSE MEDITATION ON FAITH, MEMORY AND EXTINCTION

There has been a disaster. A woman journeys to survive, a man awaits death. Through a dialogue between their two ageing bodies Promise of fallen time considers our dread to lose that which we are most attached to - a loved one, ourselves. In the margins between the performative, the fictive and the poetic, this piece quietly observes the trembling phenomenon of being alive.

Shot on location in one of Barcelona's hidden treasures - a palatial abandoned building in the Eixample - art direction is used to enhance the decadence of the environment and to create an aesthetic resonant with the 'still life' found in painting. Still relations between light, objects and furniture are here contrasted to the living, moving body and its gradual quietening. The photography and sound emphasise that quietude and motion, beauty and nostalgia in the most minimal of its forms of representation, reducing both the visual tones and the 'musical' presence down to their prime essence.

Premiere on 8th January at IDN festival, Barcelona; first broadcast - September 2009 (TV3, Canal 33).
